Patched

2022

Trying to explore the human figure and divergent concepts related to it, I fathomed with the idea of self-esteem and body image. People’s bodies are works of art coming in distinctive shades, sizes and designs and that’s what makes each of us beautiful, in our own unique way.

This piece explores the acceptance of flaws and unapologetically embracing the self.  The patched skin suggests the vulnerability one faces when being themselves, even in the presence of a loved one and the anxiety that comes with it.

As a growing young woman, I've often struggled with thoughts about body image and self love. As I progress into this process of total acceptance over my body and I learn to work with my flaws because they’re the ones that make me completely unique, I’m learning that it’s okay to be vulnerable around others and around myself. Patched is a self reminder to be my lovely, perfectly flawed and unapologetically unhinged self, no matter what my insecurities say.

I used Daz Studio to model my two subjects, saved the result as an OBJ file and imported it into Blender. From there, I started experimenting with textures, lighting and materials in order to create the final piece. To give the ‘’patched” effect, I used an add-on called "RandoMesh” in order to add some randomised geometry. For the background, I wanted it to look organic, to tie in with the overall theme, so I opted to create an icosphere covered in grass made with a particle system.

 • Software used: Blender, Daz Studio; 3D render in Cycles
 • Techniques applied: Particle System, used an addon to destroy the mesh and put it back together, modelling, texturing, materials, lighting, scene composition
